During the Great Depression, Saunders first served fried chicken at a gas station in Corbin, Kentucky, and later served it at a restaurant and motel he bought across the street. He usually serves travelers, usually to Florida, so when Corbin was not included in the pl of the new interstate highway system of 1950s, he sold his property and began to travel in the United States to sell his chicken to restaurant owners. Saunders signed an agreement that he would get 5 cents for every chicken he sold. The first person to accept the invitation was Peter Harman from South Salt Lake City, Utah. Together, they opened the world's first KFC branch in 1952. (Corbin Enterprises does not have this name. Saunders sold the whole KFC franchise business at 1964 for $2 million, and then it was sold three times, most recently to PepsiCo, which made it a part of its Tricon Global Restaurants department, and now it is called Yum! 1997, Tricon was spun off from PepsiCo.
