History of Civil Engineering College of Central South University
The School of Civil Engineering of Central South University was formerly the Department of Railway Architecture and the Department of Bridges and Tunnels of Central South University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, which was established in 1953.

Changsha Railway Institute was founded in 1960.

1964 the department of railway architecture was renamed the department of railway engineering.

1970 railway engineering office and bridge and tunnel office merged into engineering office.

1984 was renamed the Department of Civil Engineering.

1994 the specialty of architectural engineering (that is, industrial and civil architecture) was separated and the department of architectural engineering was established.

1997 the department of civil engineering and the department of architectural engineering merged to form the school of civil architecture.

In May, 2002, after the establishment of Central South University, the former School of Civil Architecture of Changsha Railway Institute, the Department of Building Environment and Equipment Engineering of Electromechanical Institute, the teaching and research section and laboratory of basic mechanics of the Department of Mathematical Mechanics, and the Civil College and Mechanics Center of the former School of Resources, Environment and Civil Engineering of Central South University of Technology merged to form the School of Civil Architecture of Central South University.

20 1 1 The Department of Architecture and Urban Planning was separated from the College of Civil Engineering, and our college was officially renamed the College of Civil Engineering.
