Cheng was a general in the late Sui and early Tang Dynasties. He used to be a general in the army. When the peasant uprising broke out at the end of Sui Dynasty, he joined the Wagang Rebel Army as a title of generals in ancient times. In the second year of Wude, Li Shimin, the king of Qin, worshipped him as the Left Army, and later became lord protector for his merits, making him one of the twenty-four heroes of Lingyange. During the reign of Emperor Taizong Zhenguan, Lu Guogong was appointed as the satrap of Luzhou and left general, and later changed his name.

In 6 18 (the first year of Wude), Wang and Shi Mi fought a decisive battle. Wang led the army to attack Dan, and Shi Biao sent reinforcements and Pei Hangyan. During the battle, Pei Hangyan fell off his horse. Cheng Zhijie cut several people, picked up Pei Hangyan and retreated. The pursuer pierced his body with a needle. Cheng Zhijie broke the needle, killed the pursuer and ran away. Shi Biao was defeated and the king was captured, and he was appointed general.

Later, he was appreciated by Shi Biao and submitted to Shi Biao. Later, he led the army to fight against Shi Biao, but Shi Biao was defeated by the king, and later Qin and others were used by the king. Wang knew Cheng and others' martial arts well, so he was appointed as a general and received a good salary. But Cheng said to Qin, "The princes are shallow and narrow-minded, but they like to talk nonsense and call names. This is just an old witch. Where is the monarch who set things right? " Then Qin and others surrendered.

During the struggle between Li and Li, he was appointed as the secretariat of Kangzhou. He said to the king of Qin, "Your right-hand men have been beheaded one by one. Can your body be protected for a long time? Even if you die, you can't leave. " Cheng Zhijie also participated in the change of Xuanwu Gate and Wude on June 4th. During the Zhenguan period, Duke Lu changed his name.

Cheng is still a lucky general, using a pair of axes as weapons. His martial arts is not very good, but he is very lucky. In the war, I met a weak opponent, and the three axes have been hit. When I met a strong opponent, I couldn't win after 36 hatchets and ran away. Now there are proverbs such as "Cheng San Banfu" and "Cheng Ban Dao", all of which come from this historical novel character.
