The Historical Evolution of Nanjing Port
Nanjing Port has a long history. As early as 229 AD, during the Soochow period of the Three Kingdoms, Nanjing Port had become a seaport with Wan Li as the river, five continents as the gateway, and tributes and business trips.

Ming dynasty was the gateway port of the capital, and modern times was the key port for imperialism to compete for control. 1858 Tianjin treaty is designated as a trading port. 1882, China merchants set up the first ship terminal in Shimonoseki. 1897 Qing government approved Nanjing to open ports for trade. 19 12 After the opening of the Jinpu Railway, Nanjing Port mainly transits by land and water. On the eve of liberation, the banks of the Yangtze River in Nanjing Port Area were still natural slopes, with scattered docks and no unified management organization. The war has severely damaged the facilities of Nanjing Port, which is basically in a state of paralysis.

Nanjing Port Authority, established in 1954, is responsible for docks and warehouses on both sides of the port area. From 1949, the capacity of Nanjing Port increased from1075,000 tons to 1962 to 8.886 million tons. 1963, the construction of two dumpers (full-box dumpers for train wagons) at the mechanized coal terminal began, marking the entry of Nanjing Port into the ranks of mechanized ports. By 1965, two projects have been completed and put into operation, making the annual throughput of the port reach118.86 million tons.

1978 opened, and Nanjing Port became the largest oil port in China. 1984 The completion of Xinshengxu Foreign Trade Port Area has made Nanjing Port the largest foreign trade port in China, marking the transformation of Nanjing Port from a traditional inland port focusing on energy transfer to an open multi-functional main hub port. From 65438 to 0987, Nanjing International Container Handling Co., Ltd., a Sino-US joint venture, was established, and Nanjing Port became the most specialized container port in China. Nanjing Port Huining Wharf Co., Ltd. was established in 1990. Nanjing Port has become the most advanced specialized bulk cargo handling port in China inland river. Nanjing Port has initially become a large-scale comprehensive port with energy, foreign trade and container transportation as the mainstay, with both public terminals and freight terminals as the focus, occupying an important position among the ports in the Yangtze River Delta region.

The functions of the port have been continuously expanded, forming a diversified industrial pattern such as freight forwarding, ocean shipping tally, river and sea transportation, port machinery manufacturing, port engineering, vehicle and boat repair, advertising audio and video, real estate development and port processing. "For all shippers, for all shippers, for all shippers" has been firmly established as the operating principle of Nanjing Port employees. The port has been rated as a civilized unit by the Ministry, province and city for ten consecutive years.

1In June, 1992, Nanjing Port joined the International Association of Ports and became one of the first full member ports in Chinese mainland.

On April 7th, 20 16, the signing ceremony of investment cooperation agreement between Nanjing Port and Yibin Port and the maiden voyage ceremony of "Yibin-Nanjing" container express train were held in Yibin Port. The "Yibin-Nanjing" container made its maiden voyage by express, loading 144 containers, weighing about 2,600 tons, including metal silicon and sugar. The opening of direct express flights will greatly improve the efficiency of maritime logistics between the two places, shorten the round-trip sailing time from Yibin to Nanjing by one third, and reduce the cost by 10%. The direct express train will run once a week in the future, and at the same time, the management level of comprehensive transportation logistics chain will be improved to create a fast water logistics channel from the west to the Yangtze River Delta. Through Yibin node, Nanjing Port can radiate its business to neighboring provinces, effectively promote the logistics and transportation of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and make economic exchanges smoother.
