The historical background of the establishment of NATO and the formation of the Warsaw Pact.
1949 On April 4th, the United States, Canada and some European countries signed the North Atlantic Treaty in Washington. On August 24th of the same year, NATO was formally established. At present, NATO has 26 member countries, namely: the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal, Luxembourg, Iceland, Norway, Greece and Turkey.

The full name of Warsaw Treaty Organization is 1955. 15 On May 4th, the Soviet Union, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, the Democratic Republic of Germany, Poland, Romania and Albania signed the Treaty of Friendship, Mutual Assistance and Cooperation in Warsaw, in response to the decision of the United States, Britain and France to admit the Federal Republic of Germany into NATO. The Warsaw Pact was formally established in June of the same year when the Treaty came into effect.
