Linqing's name began in Houzhao, meaning near Qinghe. In the Spring and Autumn Period, Linqing belonged to Qi at the earliest, and later changed to Jin and Wei.
Linqing City is a county-level city in Shandong Province, which is managed by Liaocheng City. Linqing is located in the northwest of Shandong Province, at the intersection of Zhangwei River and the ancient canal, facing Hebei Province across the river. It is an important gateway for Shandong to enter the west and Shanxi and Hebei to leave the east. It is the first stop for Beijing-Kowloon Railway to enter Shandong Province from north to south, and the world-famous Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passes through the city.
Linqing has a long history and is a famous historical and cultural city at the provincial level. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Linqing rose rapidly with the prosperity of the Grand Canal and became one of the top 30 cities in China at that time. Known as "rich Qijia", "prosperous Gyeonggi" and "Suzhou and Hangzhou in the south and Zhangzhou in the north". In 2006, it was recognized by the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names as the cultural heritage of geographical names in China-a thousand-year-old county.
Liaocheng is named after the ancient chat river. Three generations of Tang Yu are all from Yanzhou.
