1On June 9th, 938, Chiang Kai-shek ordered the 8th Division of the Kuomintang Army to bomb the Yellow River levee at Huayuankou, Zhengzhou, in order to prevent the Japanese army from going south. Due to the failure to mobilize people to transfer beforehand, 890,000 people were drowned, and the affected population exceeded125,000, resulting in the Yellow River flood-stricken areas in Henan, Anhui and northern Jiangsu. Due to the breach of the Yellow River, the Japanese army decided to attack Wuhan along the Yangtze River and Huaihe River.
