Xiamen Museum is an important local comprehensive museum in the southeast of China. It is dedicated to the collection, protection, research and display of the precious cultural heritage in southeastern China, especially in Fujian and Taiwan Province. Using the museum's intuitive exhibits and various display means, we will publicize the national cultural relics policy, popularize cultural relics archaeology and historical knowledge, carry forward and protect the excellent cultural heritage of the Chinese nation, preserve historical memories, and inspire people to establish national self-confidence and patriotic noble sentiments.

Xiamen Museum was established in 1983 and officially opened to the public in 1988. The original site of the old museum is located in the Bagua Building on Gulangyu Island, a world-famous scenic spot. With the rapid development of Xiamen's economy and various undertakings, Bagua Building, as a western-style residential building, can no longer meet the needs of museum protection, cultural heritage display and career development in terms of building scale, structure and function. From 2004 to 2006, Xiamen Municipal Government used the old factory building of Xiamen Construction Machinery Factory to transform it into Xiamen Cultural and Art Center. The new Xiamen Museum is located in the northeast, with a building area of 25,300 square meters, an exhibition hall area of 9,597 square meters and a warehouse area of 2,800 square meters. Compared with the old museum, the construction area of the new museum is six times that of the old museum. In June 2006, with the approval of the Organizing Committee of Xiamen Municipal Committee, the Zhengzhou Chenggong Memorial Hall and the Xiamen Cultural Heritage Protection Center were merged into the Xiamen Museum. Today, Xiamen Museum consists of seven parts: the main hall of Xiamen Museum, Zheng Chenggong Memorial Hall, Xiamen Special Economic Zone Memorial Hall, Xiamen Cultural Heritage Protection Center, Xiamen Prison Break Struggle Site, Chen Gongci and Chen Shengshen's former residence. As a public institution owned by the whole people, it is managed by Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, with an approved establishment of 64 people.

The existing basic exhibitions of Xiamen Museum are "Xiamen History Exhibition", "Grand View Garden of Ancient Stone Carvings in Fujian and Taiwan", "Fine Collection of Cultural Relics Exhibition" and "Folk Exhibition in Fujian and Taiwan", among which the predecessor of the latter, "Folk Exhibition in Fujian and Taiwan" won the National Top Ten Cultural Relics Exhibition Award with 1998. The basic exhibitions that are open to the outside world all the year round include the exhibition of Zheng Chenggong's historical relics in Zheng Chenggong Memorial Hall, the exhibition of Xiamen Special Economic Zone's construction history, the exhibition of Xiamen's escape struggle in the former site of Xiamen's escape struggle, the exhibition of Chen Huacheng's deeds by Chen Gongci, and the exhibition of the Opium War and Xiamen's history in Chen Shengshen's former residence.
