Spread your wings and soar (198 1- 1995): With the development of Arabic teaching, 198 1 in June, Beijing Foreign Studies University became an independent department, and 1986 became the first doctoral program in this major. In the mid-1980s, the Arabic Department complied with the multi-level requirements of society for Arabic talents and carried out various forms of school-running activities. In September 1983, adult evening classes were opened, and in September 10/984, correspondence teaching of Arabic in China was started. The Arabic building donated by UAE was completed.
Stepping into glory (1995 till now): 1995 Arab building officially put into use. The Arabic Department has made outstanding achievements in teaching and scientific research, and established its leading position in Arabic teaching in China. The scale of running a school has steadily expanded, and there are more than 200 students at all levels, including undergraduate, master and doctoral students. In 2002, this major was rated as a key discipline in Beijing, and in 2007, it was successively rated as an excellent key discipline in Beijing and a construction point of characteristic specialty in universities of the Ministry of Education.
