The Historical Evolution of Tancheng Town
Tancheng is an ancient city with a history of more than 3,500 years. Tancheng Mountain, called Jingshan in ancient times, was later changed to Beizhong Mountain. At the end of the Xia Dynasty, merchants moved here from the north of the Yellow River, and the leader became Tang, who had made an alliance with the eastern governors on Jingshan Mountain. Therefore, Tancheng was originally called Jingbo Lake and was the capital of the Tang Dynasty. After the Tang King moved to the capital, a vassal state, Tsukuba State, was established here, hence the name of Mengcheng. There are three city walls in the north-central old city, which are called outer city, middle city and inner city. Today, the middle city wall is still more than 5 meters above the ground and its circumference is more than 4 kilometers. There are still relics in the inner city wall. It was still Mongolia in the Western Zhou Dynasty and the early Spring and Autumn Period. During the Warring States Period, Tancheng belonged to Chu, and the State of Chu set up Meng County here. In the middle of the Western Han Dynasty, Meng County was changed to Shansang County, which lasted intermittently for more than 900 years. In the Tang Dynasty, in 742 AD, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty changed Shansang County to Mengcheng County, and moved the county site from Tancheng to today's Mengcheng, which has been in use ever since. Therefore, Tancheng is the root of Mengcheng. It is the earliest place called "Mongolia" in the history of China.

From Chu Han to Tang Dynasty, Tancheng was the political and cultural center of the county for more than 1000 years. Historical and cultural connotation, with a long history and rich inside information, is the cradle of ancient civilization in Mengcheng and a brilliant page in the history of the Chinese nation.

As early as 1 9 9 6, the "Old City in the North" was listed as a key cultural relics protection unit by Mengcheng County. On September 12, 2O02, Bozhou CPPCC held a grand conference in Tancheng Town, which affirmed the research value of Beizhong ancient city. Since 1989, experts and scholars from the Institute of History and Archaeology of China Academy of Social Sciences, provincial and municipal CPPCC, provincial and municipal cultural relics bureaus and cultural departments have visited Tancheng many times, giving high praise to the "Old City in the North". It is considered to be the site of the ancient city of Shang Dynasty in China, which has the value of excavation and research. The site of Yuchi Temple in our county is the original first village in China, and Tancheng, an ancient town in the north, should be the first city in Shang Dynasty in China. To build a famous historical and cultural city in Mengcheng and develop tourism in Mengcheng, Tancheng will be the highlight of Mengcheng's economic development in the future.
