Idiom story
In the summer of the fourth year of Xian Di Chuping (193), Tao Qian, a shepherd in Xuzhou, heard that Cao Cao's father Cao Song passed by Xuzhou. In order to protect his safety, he sent Zhang Lu to escort him all the way. Unexpectedly, when Zhang Kai saw that Cao Song was carrying a lot of gold and silver treasures, he had a bad intention. He killed Cao Song on the road and took away more than 100 cars of treasures. Cao Cao believed that Zhang Kai was ordered by Tao Qian to avenge his father, so he led the army to destroy Xuzhou in one fell swoop.
At first, Cao Jun occupied more than ten cities, but later he had to withdraw from Yanzhou because of lack of rations. In April of the first year of Xingping (194), Cao Cao mobilized troops to attack Xuzhou for the second time. This time, after Cao Jun invaded Xuzhou, it joined five cities, swept Langxie and Donghai counties, and reached Yongjian County in Xuzhou. Tao Qian joined forces with Liu Bei to resist Cao Jun in Yongxian County, but was defeated. When Tao Qian was about to escape, Zhang Miao, the satrap of Chenliu County in Yanzhou, launched a rebellion against Cao Cao.
Cao Cao heard the news and hurried back to Yanzhou. Tao Qian finally dodged the bullet. This winter, Tao Qian, who was seriously ill, was dying. Before he died, he told him not to drive the elk: "Invite Liu Bei and let him govern Xuzhou." After Tao Qian's death, Elk Zhu and Xuzhou officials invited Liu Bei to be the shepherd in Xuzhou. Liu Bei, who has been displaced for many years, is naturally elated, but on the surface he is still modest and inexperienced, and dare not take over.
Seeing Liu Bei's humility, local Chen Deng said to him, "The Han Dynasty declined and the world was in turmoil. If you want to achieve something, it's now. Xuzhou is a rich land with a population of one million. You should take over from Xuzhou Mu Zhi. " Liu Bei still said politely: "The Yuan family in charge of state affairs in the imperial court has four generations and five mouths, and Yuan Highway is a famous figure. You can ask him to be a shepherd in Xuzhou. " Chen Deng shook his head and said, "Yuan Highway has always been arrogant and rude, and it will not do anything in troubled times."
Kong Rong went on to say, "Yuan Highway is not the kind of person who cares about the country and the people and forgets personal interests. He is like a dead bone in the grave, nothing to mention. Please be a shepherd in Xuzhou, because Xuzhou people need to raise talents. If you don't want what God has given you, it's too late to regret it in the future. " Liu Bei accepted the position of Xuzhou shepherd.
