1in April, 989, the Constitution was partially revised, emphasizing that the belief, system, canon and harmony of Islam and the absolute power of the supreme leader cannot be changed. In July of the same year, Khamenei formally approved the new constitution adopted by referendum. The Islamic Parliament of Iran is the highest national legislative body with a unicameral system. Laws passed by parliament can only take effect after being approved by the Constitutional Guardian Council.
Iran's military system:
Iran implements compulsory military service, and soldiers serve for two years.
The armed forces are composed of the army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The leader is the commander in chief of the armed forces. The Supreme National Security Council is the highest military leader and the institution that formulates national defense policies. It consists of the President, representatives of two leaders, the Minister of Justice, the Speaker, the Commander-in-Chief of the Army, the Commander-in-Chief of the Guard, the Chairman of the State Planning and Budget Organization, and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Defence and Intelligence. Compulsory military service is implemented, with a service period of two years.
Iran's constitution stipulates that politics and religion are integrated, and the religious leader is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The Supreme National Defense Council is a military decision-making body under the leadership of the leader. Its members include the President, the Minister of National Defense, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, the Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and two advisers appointed by the leader. The armed forces are composed of regular troops, revolutionary guards and paramilitary forces.
